About #AncestryHour
(Please note - due to changes to Twitter it is not currently possible to host the Tuesday get togethers. While we investigate alternatives, the #AncestryHour hashtag is still very much in use and continues to connect the genealogy community
across social media.)
across social media.)
Come and follow us @AncestryHour. #AncestryHour is a Twitter base for everyone and anyone, professionals and amateurs alike, with an interest in Genealogy and Family History. Here you can meet, exchange tips, promote your services, ask questions etc., and engage with an international following within the ancestral community. Participants are asked to kindly reciprocate by following other contributors on Twitter, and re-tweeting their tweets using the hashtag #AncestryHour in order to reach the widest audience possible. Below is a short video explaining how it all works.
There appeared to me to be a requirement for an informal time and place where professional and amateur researchers could get together, exchange tips and advice, post questions, promote their professional services and chat amongst themselves without the confines of a set subject or agenda. To facilitate this I started hosting @AncestryHour in November 2013. A few folk from around the world began meeting up every Tuesday evening between 7.00 - 8.00pm GMT, using the hashtag #AncestryHour. Wow, what a response! Two years later and #AncestryHour was being quoted as the most valuable #hastag on the internet for #family history and #genealogy. With so many people dropping in I created an "out of hours" #AncestryHour community on Facebook for visitors to post comments and your links. #AncestryHour also has its own dedicated website which features contributor biographies and "blogs", providing participants with a platform to engage with the widest audience possible.
